-I'm not sure if I will be able to go to college since I come from a poor family
I'm almost 16 years old and I already figured out a financial plan I have for the future
I'm going to be getting an apartment
apartment-400 dollars
food- 200 dollars
prepaid cell phone- 20 a month, I use it more for calls and not texts
water- 30 dollars
electric- 40 dollars
gas for car- 50 dollars a month, I don't plan on doing that much traveling
car insurance- 90 dollars
health insurance- 90 dollars
Miscellaneous- 50 dollars
I don't want a landline phone or cable tv or internet. I will also set money on the side just in case for car repairs and since I will be living in an apartment I won't have to pay a heating/gas bill
so what do you think?Costs can vary quite a bit depending on where you live. Look online for apartments in your area; you can probably find rent quotes and deposit amounts online, but you might also want to call and see if they can give you estimates of water and electric bills. You won't be able to legally sign a lease on your own until you're 18. Before you move, make sure you have enough in savings to cover moving expenses, deposits (on apartment and possibly electric and water accounts), plus 3 months' expenses as a safety net. It almost always costs more than you think it will to live on your own because you forget about the hundreds of little things like dishes, silver wear, towels, shower curtain, even tiny stuff like saran wrap and tin foil can add up quickly. Plus, it's always good to keep some money in savings to cover emergencies like the car breaking down or rent being due the day before you get paid. For college, apply for financial aid through FAFSA.ed.gov and your school and get yourself some Pell Grants and student loans. As long as you do not go to an expensive college, the Pell Grant will cover tuition and the student loans would cover books.
Just do not take too much out in student loans. Get a part time job to cover your living expenses.
you might want to research the insurance a bit more. my insurance is over $100 and is mostly paid by my employer. if you are paying cash, the price is likely to be $400-500 per month for full coverage.
